While LNG is the new big thing, it seems that there are still some misconceptions about what it is. Type any questions related to LNG into Google and you will find that there are times where even the search engines provide you with search results about LPG and CNG instead.
We are here to clear the difference once and for all!

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)

This fuel manly comprises of propane, produced as a by-product of natural gas processing and petroleum refining. Heavier than air, there is a high tendency for LPG to settle and accumulate in low areas, resulting in explosion hazards.
Other than risks of explosion, it is often too costly other than for domestic uses

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)

A type of natural gas that is made up of mostly methane, drawn from a gas well or from crude oil production, it is stored in high-pressure tanks. With natural gas compressed down to only 1% of its original volume, it is much cheaper and more convenient for transportation.
In addition to increased portability and reduced cost, CNG is also a much cleaner fuel, making it a popular transportation fuel for large vehicles.
In order to facilitate pipe leak detection, a sulphur based odorant is usually added before it gets delivered through the pipeline system. This provides an advantage over other fuels such as gasoline or LPG.

Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)

The introduction of natural gas into the world began with the use of pipeline systems. However, with technological advances, natural gases can now be delivered via conventional transportation such as trucks and Lorries. This is done so through cooling Methane gas to -161°C and by which gets converted into LNG, a liquefied natural gas that is 1/600th the volume of its gaseous form.
Along with improvements in infrastructure that has greatly reduced the cost of storage, production, and transportation, LNG offers a great advantage over the above fuels.
With an energy density that is similar to conventional fuel sources such as petrol and diesel fuel, its functional versatility provides an excellent, more eco-friendly fuel alternative.

The best choice?

Liquefied Natural Gas is the answer. Especially within Singapore, up to 95% of our electricity is fuelled by LNG, making LNG an extremely important fuel source.
However, the rise of natural gas prices has been driving up electricity tariff, causing companies to scramble and source for cheaper fuel alternatives.
Other than the continuous reduction in the cost of production by gas companies, new technologies are constantly introduced to help companies generate their own electricity, helping to avoid paying for unnecessary transportation cost from obtaining electricity from utility companies.
Established since 1991, GasHub has a track record as a leading gas piping and engineering services specialist in Singapore within both the public and private sectors. We invest in innovative energy technology solution that will enable a greater and greener environment, and at the same time, achieve cost savings, greater efficiency and value for our customers.
Since 2015, our technology arm started to incorporate tri-generation units into our portfolio under the 3gex branding. These embedded power generation units run on natural gas to provide a cost-effective integrated power, heating and cooling solution for business owners who have a need for those and wish to save on energy costs.
